Narcissism Glossary

Recruiting others to pressure you (flying monkeys)

๐Ÿ’ Some people hold you responsible after hearing only one side. In writing on narcissism, the people who contact and pressure you on that person's behalf are called "flying monkeys."

They demand apologies or meetings without checking the facts themselves. They may also dig into your life and report back.

When even close people take that side, the isolation deepens.

Often seen in situations like these

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ A mutual friend says, "From what I heard, you went too far. You should apologize first."
๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ People around you probe into your life and report it back to them.
๐Ÿ“ข Family or coworkers blame you on rumor alone, never checking the facts.

When this happens, try this

๐Ÿ’ก You don't have to spend everything persuading everyone. Share what's needed with the people who actually try to verify the facts. And you're allowed to ask the ones relaying your information to stop asking about you, and stop reporting on you.
