Narcissist Behavior Q&A

๐Ÿ“ฒ They want a phone, card, or account opened in my name

"Just lending your name" can still leave the legal liability and the debt on you. Don't hand over your ID or verification codes.

The short answer

Even if family or a partner is the one using it, anything opened in your name leaves the record โ€” and the liability โ€” with you.

Scenes like this

  • Their credit was shot, so the phone line and the card should go in your name.
  • They wanted your ID and verification codes for online selling or gaming accounts.

How to tell the difference

Helping with an application is different from lending your name. And never give verification codes for an account someone else will use.

When this happens, try this

  • However close the relationship, don't hand over your ID, SIM, or verification codes โ€” contact the institution directly instead.
  • If a line or card has already been opened in your name, place a credit freeze with the three credit bureaus and ask the carrier to lock your account against further activations.
