How to tell the difference
A boundary isn't a demand that they obey. It's your own commitment about what you'll do if it happens again.
When this happens, try this
- Deliver an action you yourself will take, short and clear: "If the yelling starts, I can't continue this conversation, so I'll hang up."
- When the "but why" nitpicking comes, don't append excuses — calmly repeating your set boundary sentence works best.
